Thomas G. Kuntz is chairman, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, Florida. With more than 500 offices from Pensacola to Miami, SunTrust provides a full array of retail and commercial services as well as trust and investment services.

Kuntz has been in banking for 29 years. He is a career SunTrust banker, beginning his banking career with SunTrust Bank in Orlando in 1978 as a management associate and later working in the International Division where he was responsible for the bank’s activities in Europe. In 1990, he was promoted to senior vice president managing the International, National/Large Corporate, Florida Corporate and Institutional and Governmental Banking divisions.

In 1993, Kuntz relocated to SunTrust Bank, Tampa Bay as senior executive vice president responsible for management of the bank’s branches, all lending, private banking, and the commercial and residential real estate divisions. In 1995, Kuntz was promoted to president and chief operating officer of the Tampa Bank. In April 1998, he relocated to SunTrust Bank, South Florida, as president and chief operating officer and was elected chairman and CEO in September 1999. In January 2005, he was promoted to the position of president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, Florida with responsibility for banking operations statewide. And in June 2005, he was elected as the Florida Banking Group’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Kuntz has been active in all of the communities in which he has served throughout Florida. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Enterprise Florida board of directors, a member of the Florida Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Rollins College Board of Trustees, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando Council of Governors. He is also an active member of the Florida Council of 100.

Kuntz is a graduate of Rollins College with a B.S. in Business Administration and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He and his wife, Carol, reside in Winter Park, Florida. They have three grown children: twin daughters, Megan and Missy, and son, Jeff.
